The Command Centre

If a user has not been given permission to access a module, the module's button will not appear in the Command Centre when that user logs in to EMu.

See Table Access Registry entry for details about how users / groups are given access to modules.

The Command Centre is your central point of access to the modules you have been authorised to work with. When you log in to the EMu desktop application, the Command Centre displays as a column of buttons.

Note: Only modules you are authorised to access will display in the Command Centre. A complete list of EMu modules can be found here.

You can customise the Command Centre by adding buttons to Favourites in any order, and by resizing the Command Centre.

The Command Centre has two sections, Favourites and Modules:

 Contains buttons for all of the modules you are authorised to access (as well as buttons for Help and to Exit).

Favourites

It is possible to add buttons to Favourites, place them in any order, and to remove them from Favourites:

There are several ways to add buttons to Favourites:

  • Drag and drop buttons from Modules to Favourites:
    1. Place the cursor over a button in the Modules section, click and hold the left mouse button.
    2. Drag the cursor to Favourites and release the mouse button.

-OR-

  • Use the context menu:
    1. Right-click a button in the Modules section.
    2. Select Add to Favourites from the context menu that displays.

  • Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+Insert when a module button has focus (a green rectangle displays around its edges):

Tip: When a module button has focus, you can use the TAB key to move focus to the next button, and SHIFT+TAB to move focus to the previous button.

There are several ways to remove buttons from Favourites:

  • Use the context menu:
    1. Right-click a button in Favourites.
    2. Select Remove from Favourites from the context menu that displays.

  • Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+Delete when a module button has focus (a green rectangle displays around its edges):

Tip: When a module button has focus, you can use the TAB key to move focus to the next button, and SHIFT+TAB to move focus to the previous button.

  1. Place the cursor over a button in Favourites, click and hold the left mouse button.
  2. Drag the cursor to the desired position and release the mouse button.

Click the Favourites or Modules section header to collapse / expand the section:

  1. Place the cursor over the top or bottom edge of the Command Centre and hold down the left mouse button:

  2. Drag the cursor up or down to increase or decrease the height of the Command Centre.

A scroll bar will appear on the right side of the Command Centre any time that the height of the Command Centre is insufficient to display all buttons.

Note: Your customisations are saved and applied every time you log in.

The Command Centre context menu can be used to set up Favourites and perform several other tasks. Right-click any button in the Command Centre to display the menu:

  1. Right-click a button in the Modules section.
  2. Select Add to Favourites from the menu that displays.

Remove button from Favourites:

  1. Right-click a button in Favourites.
  2. Select Remove from Favourites from the menu that displays.

Tip: If a module is already open, it is not possible to open another instance of that module by clicking its button in the Command Centre. The following method can be used to open another instance of an open module.

To open a module:

  1. Right-click a button.
  2. Select New.

    A list of all modules you are authorised to access will display:

  3. Select any module in the list to open it.

Options

The EMu user interface and certain system settings can be customised from the Options box.

To display the Options box, right-click any button in the Command Centre and select Options.
